Reuters: The United States is looking to impose new sanctions against China

Pak Sahafat – Reuters news agency reported that the United States is seeking the support of allies for possible sanctions against China over the war in Ukraine.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, Reuters quoted four US officials as saying that Washington is engaging its close allies on the possibility of imposing new sanctions against China if Beijing provides military support to Russia for the war in Ukraine.

These consultations, which are still in the preliminary stage, are aimed at gaining the support of a wide range of countries, especially the rich countries of the Group of 7, to coordinate support for any possible restrictions.

According to Reuters, although the talks were not previously disclosed, it is not clear what specific sanctions Washington will propose.

The US Treasury Department, the main agency in imposing sanctions, refused to comment on this news.

Previously, “Michael McCall”, the head of the foreign relations committee of the US Congress, said in an interview that his country’s information shows that China is considering providing combat drones to Russia.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan also warned China about the consequences of military assistance to China and said that Beijing has not yet taken any action to supply Russia with lethal weapons, and the United States has clearly stated in confidential talks with this country that such an action would have serious consequences.

Pointing out that Beijing should make its own decisions regarding military aid to Russia, he claimed that it would have heavy costs for this country if it did so.
