Normalization of relations with Tel Aviv in the shadow of Sharm el-Sheikh climate conference

Pak Sahafat – Egyptian expert Elhami Al-Mulaji emphasized: Behind the curtain of Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh climate meeting (COP27), the issue of normalizing relations with the Zionist regime was being followed as a silent light, which should definitely be condemned.

Pak Sahafat News Agency – International Group: The international climate change meeting started on the 6th of November in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt (COP27) with the presence of representatives from 200 countries and is scheduled to continue until the 18th of November.

Holding this conference is considered important in the shadow of regional and international developments, especially the war in Ukraine, which has increased the price of energy at the international level and intensified the economic recession in different countries.

In this regard, Mehr reporter conducted an interview with “Elhami Al-Maliji”, an Egyptian expert, the text of which you can read here:

What are the goals of the climate conference that is currently being held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt?

The United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27), which will be held from the 6th to the 18th of November in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, is a part of the annual conference of the United Nations, which is dedicated to discussions between world leaders on how to deal with climate change. Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh has also been chosen as the representative of the African continent to host this meeting, because the African continent has the lowest amount of greenhouse gas emissions among all the continents of the world, which has made the black continent have the least effect on increasing global warming. However, the continent of Africa and other regions of the world are affected by climate change, these changes expose different countries to drought, desertification and other effects caused by climate change, all of which are the result of increased global warming. According to international statistics, the largest amount of greenhouse gases is exported from large industrialized countries, the United States of America and European countries, China and Russia are also at the top of the greenhouse gas producing countries.

How has this conference been received by different countries?

Representatives of nearly 200 countries in high-level delegations participated in this climate conference, and I believe that this participation was appropriate.

Everyone knows that the conference will discuss a wide range of climate issues, including urgent reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, building resilience and adaptation to the inevitable effects of climate change, and meeting commitments to finance climate action by developed countries. Are these issues the reality of this conference or are other political issues unrelated to climate change raised here?

In this conference, a wide range of climate issues are discussed, the most important of which is the effort to reduce global warming. At the Sharm el-Sheikh conference, priorities for action were considered that must be implemented to save the planet. In fact, different countries, especially industrialized countries, must fulfill the promises they have already made, because the survival of humanity requires respect for it. Industrialized countries have committed to protect the environment and must adhere to their commitments.

Some observers believe that some other issues may have been raised in this conference, including the normalization of relations by some Arab countries with the Zionist regime. What is your opinion as an expert?

Of course, on the sidelines of this meeting and behind the scenes, we saw scenes that were part of normalization, where meetings between the head of the Zionist regime and a number of Arab leaders and officials were held. This issue is definitely condemned and such events should not distract us from the main goal of the conference, which is to fight against a serious threat to humanity.

I think that many Arab regimes have distanced themselves from moral values and become arrogant, which has caused them to pursue the normalization of relations with the Zionist regime in all its forms without the need to hide in such international gatherings.
