NBC News: Trump does not attend impeachment hearings

US television said that former US President Donald Trump intends to defend himself in writing in his impeachment hearing in the US Senate.

Two informed sources told BBC News that Trump may send a letter to the Senate in self-defense. The television network said that, given Trump’s intentions, he does not intend to appear in person in court to defend himself against the charges.

Joshua Howard, a former Justice Department official who attended the trial of 42-year-old President Bill Clinton for a sex scandal, has joined Trump’s defense team. Trump’s top lawyer, Butch Bowers, may hire another lawyer – a constitutional expert – at the trial, BBC News reports.

Florida-based Trump is said to be closely following Republican protests against impeachment, calling members of the party his allies. A source with the BBC News channel said that Trump was happy with the signs that he could be acquitted during the interrogation process and that the delay in the trial helped him.

According to Sputnik, the television network denies the news that Trump intends to establish a new party in the United States.
