Macron won, Europe breathed a sigh of relief

Pak Sahafat – Emmanuel Macron has been re-elected President of France for a second five-year term, easing the minds of leaders of predominantly European countries for at least the next five years through bilateral relations and co-operation within the European Union.

According to Pak Sahafat News agency on Monday, Emmanuel Macron‘s confrontation with a far-right rival in the second round of the presidential election had raised a wave of concern about the future of the European Union. Although Marine Le Pen, a candidate for the National Assembly, has said he has no intention of ousting France out of the bloc, his persistent opposition to the structure and mechanism of the bloc and his insistence on nationalism and sovereignty has heightened concerns.

Some European leaders, in messages about the French election without naming Macron, called on the French people to choose someone who is committed to European and EU values.

In the first reaction to Macron’s victory, Council of Europe President Charles Michel tweeted congratulations to Macron: In this turbulent time, we need a strong Europe and a France that is fully committed to a more independent and strategic European Union. We can count on France for another five years.

European Commission President Ursula Fann also congratulated Macron on his re-election and wrote in a tweet: I look forward to continuing our excellent cooperation. We will move France and Europe forward together.

In a tweet in English and French, Boris Johnson called France “one of the closest and most important allies” and wrote: I am pleased to continue to work together on key issues for our countries and for the world.

Spanish President Pedro Sanchez called Macron’s victory a “victory of democracy” and a “victory of Europe”.

Swiss President Ignacio Cassis also said: I look forward to our good cooperation.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte called Macron’s victory “good news for Europe”, and said: I look forward to continuing the broad and constructive cooperation in the European Union and NATO, as well as to strengthening the excellent relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister of Belgium and Macron’s ally, Alexandre de Croix, also stated: The French had a strong choice with Enlightenment certainties and values.

Congratulating Macron on his victory, Vladmir Zelinsky called him a “true friend” of Ukraine and tweeted: I appreciate his support and I know that together we will move towards a new and common victory, towards a strong and united Europe.

The British want Macron to win the French election

In Italy, Macron’s re-election was seen above all as a victory for the supporters of a united Europe against the rulers. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi called the French election result “great news for all of Europe” and Democratic Party Secretary Enrico Letta called it “great peace”. Former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi also believes that Macron’s victory, by strengthening the Rome-Paris axis, will allow Italy to strengthen its position in Europe. Matteo Salvini, a representative of one of the ruling coalition parties in Italy, was the only dissenting voice to tell his friend Marine Le Pen: Move forward for a Europe based on work, family and security.

In Germany, too, Chancellor Olaf Schultz soon congratulated Macron on his victory, saying: “Voters sent you a strong signal to Europe.” I look forward to continuing to work together.

According to French-language media, the follow-up to the French election results in Germany showed its importance for Berlin, as well as concerns about the future of cooperation between the two countries. Le Pen’s victory in the French elections for Germany was a loss of an important and fundamental partner. It also obscures the future plans of the European Union, in which the two countries play a pivotal role.

Congratulating Macron on his re-election, Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Christan Lindner said: “A united Europe has won this election.

The Prime Minister of Ireland Michael Martin praised the “motivated and dynamic leadership” of Emmanuel Macron; “A leadership that is important not only for France but also for Europe.”

Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, who had previously implicitly backed Macron in a joint editorial in Le Monde with Schultz and Sanchez, tweeted: In this turbulent time for our continent and the world, it is crucial that we count on France to be equal, greener and more prosperous in defending multilateralism, security, combating climate change and participating in building a humane Europe.

US President Joe Biden also congratulated Macron on his victory, calling France “the oldest partner and key ally in meeting global challenges.” He expressed satisfaction with the continuation of “close cooperation between the two countries, especially in support of Ukraine, the defense of democracy and the fight against climate change.”

Colombian President Ivan Duque congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on his victory and assured that the current president is “a great friend of Colombia and a defender of democratic values.”

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez also congratulated his French counterpart on the victory of the “democratic process” in the second round of the presidential election.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grande, said in a statement: We count on the support of France, Europe and the world as the challenges of humanitarian issues and the refugee crisis become more and more complex and complex.

The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanoum, also congratulated Macron on his election to continue important cooperation with France.

The French presidential election was held in two rounds. The first round of the 2022 French presidential election was held on April 10, with Macron winning 27.6 percent of the vote and Marine Le Pen 23 percent in the second round. The second round was held yesterday, Sunday, April 24 (May 4). The match between the two rivals ended yesterday with 58.55% of Macron votes against 41.45 Le Pen.
