Lebanon’s Energy Minister: Iran’s fuel export to Lebanon is Seyed Hassan Nasrallah’s initiative

The Minister of Energy of Lebanon, pointing out that all Lebanese welcome the receipt of Iranian fuel, announced that this was the result of Seyed Hassan Nasrallah’s initiative and Gibran Bassil’s proposal.

According to the International group of Pak Sahafat news agency, “Walid Fayyaz”, the Minister of Energy in the Government of Lebanon, announced that the export of Iranian fuel to Lebanon is a strategic step for the establishment of power plants in this country. Because it will be the starting point for the implementation of the electricity plan designed by the Ministry of Energy and approved by the Council of Ministers.

This plan is aimed at increasing the electricity supply hours and is a prelude to canceling the tariff and providing financial balance for the electricity department to address its needs in the future. Also, with this plan, the electricity of Lebanese citizens will be produced at a lower cost than private generators.

Walid Fayyaz in a meeting with Mojtaba Amani, Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon and a number of officials from our country’s embassy in Beirut, as well as members of the Lebanese technical team who are going to travel to Tehran to discuss the import of fuel from Iran, said that we welcome Iranian fuel, and the export of Iranian fuel to Lebanon takes place as a result of the initiative of Hassan Nasrallah, the Secretary General of Hezbollah, and the suggestion of Jabran Basil, the head of the National Azad Movement.

He added, in the next stage, the interim government of Lebanon headed by Najib Mikati received this proposal and he then met with the Speaker of the Parliament “Nabieh Bari” and talked about it. After that, contacts were made between the Lebanese officials and the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and finally this initiative (Iranian fuel exports to Lebanon) was welcomed by everyone in the political and national arena.

Mojtaba Amani, on his turn, emphasized in this meeting that Iran is ready to help this country not only in the field of fuel supply but also in all matters related to the energy sector and in particular the construction of power generation stations according to the BOT contracts and the maintenance and repair of the Lebanese electricity network.

BOT contracts in simple language are construction, operation, transfer and assignment contracts. In this type of contracts, the company or a group of companies will implement heavy financial projects after obtaining points. After a limited period of time, such companies will benefit from the mentioned projects and then hand over the project to the other party free of charge, so that it is possible to fully operate on it, which is usually the government or private companies.

The ambassador of Iran in Beirut also mentioned that there is a political will in the Lebanese government to receive Iranian fuel, and the contacts with the Lebanese authorities continue to achieve the desired results, and we hope that the export of Iranian fuel to Lebanon will be the beginning of cooperation in other fields as well.

This is while a few days ago, informed Lebanese sources announced that the fuel export mechanism of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Lebanon has been provided to solve a major part of the problems of power plants.

The mentioned sources emphasized that Najib Mikati, the prime minister of the interim government of Lebanon, has assigned Walid Fayaz to prepare a technical delegation and this delegation will soon go to Tehran to talk with Iranian officials.

The livelihood and economic crisis in Lebanon, affected by the country’s urgent need for fuel, has faced increasing tension in the lives of the citizens of this country. Sanctions against Lebanon have reduced the value of the country’s currency, and the lack of fuel imports for its two power plants has put the country into alternating blackout cycles. During the last few months, various organizations in Lebanon went on strike to achieve their demands regarding salary increases, meanwhile, a large number of bakeries and fuel stations in Lebanon have also been closed due to the lack of fuel and its forces have become unemployed.

The Lebanese Electricity Company also announced, a high percentage of Lebanese people live in total darkness and some of them do not even have electricity for 5 days, especially in the villages of the Kaserwan region and the south of the country. In fact, Lebanese people have reached the point where they wish to have one hour of electricity at night and no longer trust the government to solve the problem.

According to the announcement of the Lebanese Electricity Company, this country only relies on Iraqi fuel, which supplies about 3 hours of electricity; Meanwhile, the Minister of Public Affairs and Transportation of Lebanon has recently emphasized that his country is ready to cooperate with Iran in the field of implementing constructive strategic projects.

Lebanese sources reported, While the Lebanese authorities are disappointed with the implementation of America’s promises to import energy from Egypt and Jordan, it is expected that the insistence of the nation and the officials of this country to receive Iranian fuel will increase and they will once again resort to the initiative of Seyed Hassan Nasrallah to save themselves from this critical situation.
