International Criminal Court warns of war crimes in occupied Palestine

The Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has warned of escalating tensions in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and of committing war crimes there.

Fatou Bensouda, Attorney General of the Independent International Criminal Court in The Hague, the Netherlands, on Monday warned of war crimes in occupied Palestine.

According to Reuters, Bensouda warned in a statement about possible repercussions of war crimes by the Zionist regime under the “Rome Statute”, while expressing concern about rising tensions in the West Bank and other parts of occupied Palestine.

The Hague prosecutor wrote: “My office will continue to monitor developments on the ground and will consider any issues that fall within its jurisdiction.”

However, since the Zionist regime is not a member of the Rome Statute in the International Criminal Court, it has so far refused to cooperate with this institution. Describing the court’s investigation as illegitimate, the Zionist regime claims that if its soldiers make a mistake, its judicial system can handle it. Bensouda, who will hand over her seat in The Hague tribunal to British prosecutor Karim Khan next month, is investigating the Zionist regime’s war crimes case in occupied Palestine over the years.

According to the Jerusalem Post, because the International Criminal Court is limited in resources (inspector, prosecutor and judge), it may not be able to convict more than 10 people. The first group is those who were involved in the decisions related to the Gaza war in 2014. The second group is those who were involved in the Gaza border crisis, and the third group is those who were involved in the decision to expand the settlements.

The newspaper added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu falls into all three categories, while Gantz, then-army chief of staff, and Moshe Ya’alon, then-regime war minister during the Gaza war, are also most likely to receive arrest warrants.

Last week, Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki sent a letter to Bensuda. The letter described the Zionist regime’s move to forcibly relocate Palestinians living in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem. Al-Maliki went on to ask the Criminal Court to take a public and clear position on the issue.

The Palestinians own the land in Jerusalem and their homes were built by the Jordanian government under an agreement reached in 1965 between the Jordanian government and UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East).

But the Zionists claim that the land on which the Palestinian houses were built used to belong to Jewish families. The Zionist regime has now been able to disprove this false claim by colluding in the courts of Jerusalem, and hundreds of Palestinians are facing forced displacement.
