Greek court overturns US seizure of Iranian oil

A Greek court has overturned an earlier decision by the United States to seize Iranian oil.

According to the Pak Sahafat news agency, quoted by Reuters, A Greek court on Wednesday overturned a previous ruling by another court that allowed the United States to seize part of Iran’s oil shipment off the coast of Greece, three informed sources said Wednesday.

A Greek legal source said Iran had previously appealed the Greek court’s initial ruling. The source said: The annulment of the court order will be accepted by the judge and it will be difficult to reject it in the appellate court.

It is unclear whether the US or Greek governments will object to the ruling.

About a month ago, Greece seized an Iranian-flagged oil tanker off its shores and then transported its cargo to the United States. The United States will seize Iranian oil stored on a Russian-owned ship near Greece and ship it in another ship, Reuters reported.

Greece’s move to seize Iranian oil was quickly met with a backlash from the Islamic Republic, and when it was announced that Iranian oil would be transferred to the United States, Iran could no longer tolerate Greece violating international law.

In the next step, Iran took military action to respond to Greece’s move to seize its tanker. The IRGC media office announced on Friday that the IRGC navy had seized two Greek tankers for violating laws in the Persian Gulf.
