George Floyd’s accomplice was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison

Pak Sahafat – The former Minneapolis police officer who was involved in the killing of George Floyd in May 2020 was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, citing Reuters, the sentencing hearing for “J. Alexander Koeng” was held at the Hennepin District Court in the state of Minnesota on Friday. He appeared in court via video call from a federal prison in Ohio.

In October, Kueng pleaded guilty to the murder of George Floyd, a black American.

He is currently serving another 2.5-3.5-year sentence in an Ohio prison in connection with Floyd’s murder.

He is one of four officers who went to a store on May 25, 2020 to arrest Floyd. Floyd was suspected of using a counterfeit $20 bill to buy cigarettes.

During the arrest of this black citizen, Derek Chauvin, as the senior officer of the group of four, threw Floyd to the ground and put his knee on his neck. This action lasted 9 minutes and caused Floyd’s death.

Kueng, 29, and another officer helped Chauvin handcuff Floyd and place him on the ground. Another officer also prevented passersby from approaching the scene.

Chauvin was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison and two other officers were sentenced to 2 and a half to 3 and a half years in prison each.

Floyd’s murder caused widespread reactions and caused massive demonstrations in America and different parts of the world.

Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump said in a statement that Kueng’s conviction gives Floyd’s family a taste of justice.
