Former Pentagon Software Director: We lost the AI battle to China

In an interview with the Financial Times, the former Pentagon chief software officer called China the winner of the artificial intelligence battle with the United States and said that China was on the path to world domination because of its advances in technology.

According to Pak Sahafat news agency, quoted by Reuters, according to Western intelligence estimates, China, the world’s second-largest economy, will dominate many emerging technologies over the next decade or so, especially technologies such as artificial intelligence, artificial biology and genetics.

Nicholas Shaylan, the first Pentagon software director to resign in protest of the slow pace of technological change in the US military, said failure to respond puts the United States at risk.

He added: In the next 15 to 20 years, we will have no chance to compete with China; it’s over now, I think it’s over; Talking about whether or not work will lead to war would be baseless.

He said China was going to dominate the future of the world and control everything from media narratives to geopolitics.

Shaylan blamed the slow pace of innovation, the reluctance of American companies like Google to work with the government on artificial intelligence, and the broad ethical debate over the technology.

Google has not yet commented on this outside of business hours.

Shaylan said: “Chinese companies have a responsibility to work with their government and are investing heavily in artificial intelligence, regardless of ethics.” He also described US cyber defense in some government offices as “kindergarten”.

Shaylan resigned in early September, protesting that military officials had repeatedly been responsible for cyber projects they had no experience with.

A US Air Force spokesman said Frank Kendall, Secretary of the Air Force, met with Shaylan to discuss his recommendations for future software development and thanked him for his participation.
