Food inflation changed the buying habits of the British

Pak Sahafat – The research conducted in England shows that the high inflation rate of food has changed the buying habits of the people of this country to a significant extent.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, the research of the English Kantar Research Institute indicates that as a result of the increase in prices, British people go to the store less, buy more non-branded items and generally look for discounted items.

According to statistics, an average household used to shop for groceries 18 times before the Corona epidemic, but this amount has now reached about 16 times a month and people are spending less each time.

Frazer McQuitt, senior member of the British think tank Cantar, told the BBC: People still haven’t returned to stores like they used to. They work more from home and this problem has reduced the opportunity to buy. Richard Walker, CEO of Ilsand chain store, also confirmed that the number of buyers in this store has decreased and “people often shop at the end of the month.

Kantar data also shows that almost 12 percent (11.7%) of grocery shopping is done online. This rate was 15.4% during the Corona epidemic. McQuitt attributed the decline to older people returning to stores, saying: They now have time to go shopping and probably enjoy going out and seeing people. However, research shows that online shopping is a more popular option than before the Corona pandemic.

Kantar Institute surveys also indicate an increase in the purchase of non-branded products. Statistics show that in 2005, about 45% of non-branded items were sold, but this amount has reached 51% at the end of 2022. The findings of this British institute indicate that the number of auctions in stores has decreased by 15% in the last 9 years. This situation has caused buyers to increasingly look for discounts.

The Kantar report is published while, according to statistics, the price of most food items has doubled in the past year. Meanwhile, some food items such as eggs and vegetables are still scarce in stores.

On the one hand, the price of energy, rent, communication costs, taxes have all experienced significant increases over the past year, adding hundreds of pounds to millions of British households who are suffering from a cost of living crisis.

The fact is that the British economic situation is in the worst condition of the last half century due to several consecutive crises, and according to the head of the central bank, the country is experiencing a long period of economic stagnation. The inflation rate has reached from 2% to 8% and England is the only country in Western Europe that experiences the highest inflation.

British government officials have made promises to reduce the inflation rate and curb the economic situation, but British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has clearly stated that people should not expect the government to be the solution to all their problems; In addition, economic challenges will not disappear this year.
