Discriminatory Canadian laws against Muslims / expulsion of veiled teacher regardless of protests

The expulsion of a veiled teacher from a school in the Canadian province of Quebec reveals a wider range of discrimination against minorities in the country.

The expulsion of Fatemeh Anwari, a veiled teacher, from a school in the Canadian province of Quebec has provoked many protests and reactions.

According to Al-Istiqlal, the Education Council of the City of Chelsea, Canada, decided to fire the veiled teacher because the province of Quebec has approved Bill No. 21; the bill bans employees of Canadian government agencies and centers from wearing religious symbols.

According to Canadian politicians and critics, “the controversial 21 Quebec bill unfairly targets ethnic minorities, especially Muslim women who wear the hijab; “This law forces people to choose between their religion and their job.”

“I’ve been exposed to a flood of phone calls and emails since the teacher was fired, most of whom oppose it,” said Wayne Daly, interim head of Quebec’s Western School Board, in an interview with CBC Canada.

He added: “Most Quebec people oppose Bill 21, known as the Secularism Act, and the delegation informed the regional government that Bill 21 is a violation of human rights and an immoral act.”

“Fatemeh Anvari” also talks about her deprivation of teaching in her contact with “SBC” network, it does not only affect one person and the clothes you wear; This is much more than that; What children learn from this is what they learn, and that is the biggest concern; The students were very restless, they saw me in the hallway and asked me why I could not be their teacher.

Parents and students at the Chelsea School protested against Bill 21 in Quebec and tried to put pressure on regional lawmakers.

A letter is being circulated on Canadian social media regarding the farewell of one of Fatemeh Anwari’s students; this letter has received a lot of feedback on social media.

The head of the Muslim Council of Europe (CEM) said in a statement “This approach to the issue of hijab in the Canadian province of Quebec leads us to similar approaches in other Western European countries, such as France.”

According to the President of the Muslim Council of Europe, “the adoption of laws prohibiting acts or behaviors that are part of religion is a contradictory act; “The contradiction between the recognition of freedoms, including religious freedoms, on the one hand, and the enactment of laws prohibiting religious practices or manifestations, on the other.”
