The United Nations recently published its annual report on the situation of children in international conflicts and crises. In this report, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced that UN officials will investigate the killing and wounding of children in Ukraine, Ethiopia and Mozambique, which indicates that 2,515 children were killed and 5,555 were injured in global conflicts in 2021.
The annual Children and Armed Conflict report, released on Monday, also confirmed the recruitment and use of 6,310 children in conflicts worldwide in 2021. The report found that the highest number of confirmed violations against children in 2021 were in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, said two of the most troubling violations stemming from the conflict in Ukraine are the killing and maiming of children and attacks on schools and hospitals.

According to statistics published by the Yemeni Ministry of Health, more than 300 children under the age of five die every day as a result of war, hunger, disease, siege and its disastrous effects. According to this report, 43% of newborns who are malformed and premature do not survive due to the lack of facilities and medical equipment. Also, according to the Yemeni authorities, every 10 minutes, a Yemeni child dies and all this happens in the shadow of the widespread crimes of the Saudis.
Despite all these crimes, which are similar to genocide, the Saudis have also used their financial leverage in the United Nations and have not allowed their names to be included in this list. Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said in 2016 that the decision to remove the name of the Saudi coalition from the black list is a difficult and painful decision. He said that the reason for removing the Saudi coalition from the UN blacklist was the threat of some countries to cut off their aid to some programs of this organization.
