Debris of problems on Europeans; Cold and dry winter warning

Pak Sahafat – In a situation where Europe is struggling with an energy crisis due to the embargo on Russian gas, the forecast of the continent’s climate in winter shows that after the drought crisis this summer, Europeans are now facing a bigger challenge.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, The English newspaper Financial Times wrote in a report: According to Florence Rabier, Director General of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), the initial indicators for the weather conditions in November and December indicate high air pressure in Western Europe, which can bring colder temperatures along with brings less rain and wind.

In the current situation, when the import of Russian gas to Europe has been greatly reduced due to the embargo on the country’s oil and gas by the European Union, and concerns about the lack of gas for domestic use, including heating during the winter, have reached their peak, he warned that the decrease in wind will reduce energy production through wind turbines.

The Financial Times went on to point out that the forecast was based on data from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and several other systems based in the UK, the US, France and Japan and said: Therefore, such a situation during the winter can create a big challenge for European policymakers who are already dealing with issues such as the energy crisis and unprecedented inflation in the region.

Rabir emphasized: In this weather pattern, not only more energy will be consumed due to the double cold, but due to less wind, the energy produced through wind turbines will decrease. Also, with the decrease of rainfall, the input of hydropower plants will also be limited.

American Journal: The situation in Europe will be unimaginable

This is while, according to Rabir, Europe is in a fragile state by spending one of the hottest summers in the history of this continent. Because the share of energy produced through wind and hydropower plants has decreased due to unprecedented heat and drought.

In this connection, the European Union has committed to become independent of Russian gas by 2027 by focusing on more renewable energy and importing gas from other countries. After the start of the Ukraine-Russia war, the process of reducing gas imports from Russia intensified in Europe, so that the share of Russian gas in the total amount of gas consumed in this continent has increased from 40% to 9%.

The Director General of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) added: In the medium term, these storms bring balanced weather (rain, wind and higher temperature), but as time passes and the weather gets colder, the weather conditions known as “La Niña” will prevail.

According to this report, in La Niña, which is formed due to the cooling of the surface of the Pacific Ocean, the pattern of wind, precipitation and temperature changes in different regions.

Luxembourg Energy Minister Claude Tormes said in this regard last week: European Energy Ministers have asked the Network of Electricity Network Operators of the European Union (ENTSO-E) to provide a report on the potential risks of the security of electricity supply in winter, one month earlier than usual.
