China reacts to fake BBC reports

China’s Foreign Ministry has condemned fake and biased reports by a British network about the country’s affairs. China’s foreign ministry on Wednesday condemned recent reports by the BBC.

According to the website of the Chinese Embassy in London, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said: “The BBC has once again made false reports, misrepresented Hong Kong, Xinjiang province and the Corona virus, and has invaded China with a serious deviation from the ethics of the journalistic profession.”

The Chinese official added: “The BBC has long been reporting on China with pessimistic glasses, as a result of which it has gradually lost its credibility. The BBC’s Robin Brandt in Shanghai, in his report on the floodwaters in Henan, puts ideology ahead of reality and turns a blind eye to the fact that the Chinese government has made no effort to rescue people and those local residents has voluntary come to the rescue.”

A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that reports of BBC prejudice were unpopular with the Chinese people and only damaged the media’s credibility. We hope that the BBC can truly adhere to professional ethics and eliminate the contradictions it has created in the eyes of the Chinese people by providing real reports.

On the other hand, according to Reuters, the Chinese embassy in London in a statement strongly opposed the use of the name “Chinese Taipei” for Taiwan during the coverage of the Olympic Games.

The statement said: “There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an integral part of Chinese territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China.”

Last year, the British government revoked the broadcasting license of the Chinese news network CJT in the UK. In retaliation, the Chinese government said the BBC should apologize for politically exploiting the global outbreak of the coronavirus and spreading “fake” news. Eventually, China’s National Broadcasting Corporation announced that the BBC, the UK’s state-run global media service, had been banned from broadcasting.

Earlier this year, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that John Sadworth, a BBC correspondent, had traveled to Taiwan without prior notice following a complaint.
