Following the arrest of the Indian blogger, the two human rights organizations said in a statement that our investigators had uncovered significant information that in 2017, the British government may have allowed MI5 and MI6 to obtain information about British national Jagtar Singh Johal.

According to the results of the investigations of these two human rights organizations, the information shared by the British intelligence services led to the illegal arrest and torture of Sang Johal in India.

The UK is bound by international treaties such as the European Convention on Human Rights not to extradite citizens where they are subject to torture.

But Johal’s family members and other British citizens who have been detained abroad or have recently been released have called for legislation that would require the UK government to actively protect people caught up in such cases.
