Britain’s claim: weapons containing depleted uranium to be sent to Ukraine are conventional war munitions

Pak Sahafat – Britain’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations claimed that the weapons containing depleted uranium, which the London government is trying to send to the Ukrainian front in line with its adventurous policies, are considered conventional war ammunition.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, “James Kerioki” (Friday) made a speech at the Security Council meeting regarding the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus and said: In January 2022, the Group of Five announced that nuclear war cannot be won and should never be fought. They also declared that nuclear weapons – as long as they exist – must serve the purposes of defense, deterrence of aggression and war.

He added: Despite this commitment, since the beginning of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, Putin has used irresponsible nuclear rhetoric. But let’s be clear, no other country has raised the prospect of using nuclear weapons in this conflict. No one threatens Russia’s sovereignty, and it is Russia that has violated the UN Charter by attacking another independent country.

The British representative claimed: We have heard Putin’s claim about sending depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine […] But Russia knows very well that these are conventional munitions – not nuclear warheads, and this is yet another example of Russia trying to deceive the public.

The British Ministry of Defense announced that part of the Challenger 2 tank ammunition that London is going to send to Ukraine contains depleted uranium. Depleted uranium can more easily penetrate tanks and armored vehicles, according to the UK’s deputy defense minister.

This is while the dust caused by the firing of these weapons can have destructive effects on human health, especially on the lungs and vital organs. Accordingly, while condemning the British plan, the Russian President has warned that he will give a proportionate response to London’s provocative action.

The British representative further said: We welcome the request of the Chinese president to the international community for joint opposition to the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons. We also pay attention to the joint statement of China and Russia regarding the non-deployment of nuclear weapons abroad.

By ignoring the participation of the London government in the controversial ACOS agreement regarding the sale of nuclear submarines to Australia, he claimed: But Russia is constantly undermining the architecture of nuclear arms control, which is the foundation of our collective security.

“We will stand firm in our support for the people of Ukraine and call on Russia to de-escalate tensions, starting with an end to its illegal aggression,” Kiriyuki concluded.
