Blinken: Putin is trying to revive the Soviet Union

The US Secretary of State claimed that Russian officials, especially Vladimir Putin, are seeking to restore Moscow’s influence in the Soviet Union, and that such an issue would be unacceptable to Washington.

According to the international group of Pak Sahafat news agency, quoted by “Interfax” news agency, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken believes that Russian officials are geopolitically working to restore order in the Soviet Union. “This is one of the goals of Russian President Vladimir Putin,” Blinken said in an interview with CNN last night.

Emphasizing that the decision was not a signal of a formal antitrust inquiry into the United States, he added: “It is precisely this intention that justifies Russia’s intention to restore Moscow’s influence over countries that were already part of the Soviet Union.”

The Secretary of State also said that Russia’s talks with the United States and NATO on security guarantees this week were unlikely to lead to significant progress.

Earlier in the year, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said Putin wanted to revive the Soviet Union.

This claim of the Washington officials is heard while the President of Russia in the summer of 2021 emphasized that the revival of the Soviet Union has lost its meaning and in the current situation of the world is far from logic and expediency. Putin had said: “Otherwise, we may face problems, including in the social sphere, which will be impossible to resolve, and it is not even unlikely that we will face the issue of the collapse of the ethnic core in the country.”
