Blinken meets with Malala Yousafzai

In a meeting with the US Secretary of State, Malala Yousafzai emphasized the right of Afghan girls to education and called on the United States and the United Nations to take immediate action to ensure the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan.

According to Pak Sahafat news agency, quoted by Anatolian News Agency, Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban in 2012 for going to school, on Monday criticized the sudden changes now taking place under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, where women’s freedoms and educational opportunities have disappeared.

“In a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Yousafzai told the media: You mentioned that we came here to talk about equal education for girls, but we know that Afghanistan is currently the only country where girls do not have access to secondary education.

About 100 days have passed since the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, after 20 years of military and diplomatic presence. During this period, women and girls took steps towards education and jobs, but the return of the Taliban re-established the country as a populist society, leaving few educational opportunities for women and girls.

“Educating girls is a powerful tool for peace and security,” said Malala Yousafzai, referring to a letter from a 15-year-old girl from Afghanistan. If girls do not learn, Afghanistan will lose. As a girl and a human being, I want you to know that I have rights. Women and girls have rights. Afghans have the right to live in peace, to go to school and to play.

The Pakistani activist, who now lives in Britain, told the US Secretary of State: This is the message of Afghan girls. We hope that the United States and the United Nations will take immediate action to ensure that girls can return to school as soon as possible, that women can return to work, and that all the humanitarian assistance needed for education is provided there.

Anthony Blinken, on the other hand, praised Yousefozi as an inspiration to women and girls around the world and promised to share the Afghan girl’s letter with US President Joe Biden.
