Amnesty International: Israeli attack on civilians is a war crime

Amnesty International described Israeli attacks on civilians and residential buildings in the Gaza Strip as “war crimes” and called for an investigation.

According to Middle East News, Amnesty International issued a statement saying that Israeli airstrikes had killed children and women, and in some cases all members of a family, and that the lives of Palestinian civilians had been ignored and civilian buildings were destroyed.

The statement stressed the need to investigate these attacks in the form of “crimes against humanity” or “war crimes.”

Saleh Hejazi, Amnesty International’s deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa, said there was evidence that Israel had not issued any warnings before the four deadly attacks in the Gaza Strip and that the International Criminal Court had been asked to investigate.

He added that Israel had once again shown that it had ignored the lives of Palestinians by attacking residential areas without warning when civilians were inside, and had been punishing them since 2007 with an illegal siege.

Hejazi stated that deliberate attacks on civilians, their civilian property and infrastructure are disproportionate and a war crime.

Amnesty International’s deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa said the International Criminal Court, which is investigating the situation in Palestine, should immediately look into the matter as war crimes.

As a result of the Israeli attacks on Gaza since last Monday, 219 people have been martyred, including 63 children, 36 women and 16 elderly people.
