American newspaper: Wagner intended to arrest the top Russian military officials

Pak Sahafat – The Wall Street Journal claimed in a report that Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group, planned to arrest two senior Russian military officials.

According to Pak Sahafat International News Agency, this American newspaper quoted Western officials and wrote today that Prigozhin’s plan included the arrest of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the head of the Russian Joint Chiefs of Staff, Valery Gerasimov, when both of them visited an area on the border with Ukraine.

According to the report, Russia’s Federal Security Service found out about the plan two days before the mutiny took place, forcing Prigozhin to change his plans at the last minute and head for Moscow instead.

In another report titled “Putin Takes Control of Wagner’s Global Empire,” the Wall Street Journal claimed that Wagner was helping the Kremlin by collecting revenue through a network of paper companies.

It is also claimed in another part of the report that Wagner’s forces in Syria were ordered to move towards the Russian base in Latakia.

Dimitri Peskov, the spokesman of the Kremlin, said in response to the reports of the American newspapers about the failed rebellion of the Wagner group: “Now there will be many speculations and rumors surrounding these events.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the New York Times, citing officials in this country, claimed that “Sergei Sorovikin”, the current commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the former commander of the Russian forces in Ukraine, knew about the plan of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the commander of the rebel forces of Wagner, the Russian private military company, for a coup and rebellion.

These officials said: We are trying to find out whether Sorovikin helped Prigozhin in implementing this coup plan or not. There is evidence that other Russian generals may have helped the Wagner commander.
