On Friday local time, 13 American lawmakers sent a letter to major technology companies, asking them to facilitate the access of Iranian protesters to online tools.
This letter, which was written by the initiative of Tom Malinowski and signed by lawmakers such as Robert Menendez, the Democratic Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, asks the managers of Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft and Digital Ocean to act as soon as possible and legally provide the tools needed by Iranian protesters to bypass government bans on the Internet.
The letter states: While the Iranian government continues to crack down on protesters, access to communication services is critical.
In this letter addressed to major American technology companies, it is stated: We are writing to you about the recent action in issuing the D-2 general license by the US Department of Treasury and we ask your company and its subsidiaries to use this license and develop access to key communication services for Iranians inside Iran.
