64 people killed by US police in the last 20 days

According to information gathered by the American newspaper, since the beginning of the trial of the police officer who killed “George Floyd”, 64 people have been killed by the American police, more than half of whom are black and Latino.

Just hours before the court heard the case of police officer who murdered George Floyd, Chicago police shot and killed a 13-year-old boy with his hands up in a show of surrender.

A day later, a 32-year-old man was shot dead by police at a hotel in Jacksonville, Florida. The next day, a 40-year-old mentally ill man was shot dead by state police in Clermont, Florida, while a witness to Floyd’s murder was testifying in court.

According to the New York Times, in the days leading up to the trial of Floyd’s murder, another man was killed by US police on the spot.

According to the newspaper, while the trial of Minneapolis police officer Derek Shovin brings to life every day the memory of the horrific murder of Floyd below the man’s knees for the American people and they are anxiously waiting for his verdict, the murders by the American police are uninterrupted.

Violence by U.S. police in killing people of color has occasionally sparked widespread tension and unrest in various states.

The results of a recent investigation in the United States show that police have shot dead at least 135 unarmed blacks since 2015.

The study, commissioned by the National Radio and Television of America (NPR), found that in 75% of cases, the perpetrators were white police officers.

The NPI investigation was released a few months after nationwide protests over the racist murder of George Floyd by a white officer. Floyd was an African-American who died on May 25, 2020, during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after a police officer pressed his knee to his neck.

The release of a film from the moment of his death angered the people of the United States and around the world and led to nationwide protests.
