Pakistan’s efforts to expand trade with Iran through rail links

Pak Sahafat – The Minister of Railways of Pakistan announced that the country will strengthen the railway infrastructure on the Quetta-Zahedan route in order to expand trade cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially in terms of exports.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, last December, the whistle of the ECO freight train, which connects the three main countries that are the founders of the Economic Cooperation Organization, namely Pakistan, Iran and Turkey, sounded in Islamabad after a 10-year gap. The resumption of this regional plan provided a new opportunity for the development of regional trade, especially for Iran’s eastern neighbor in order to increase bilateral cooperation with our country.

The movement of the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Mosom container train to the ITI Corridor rail line is interpreted as the effort of the founders of the Economic Cooperation Organization to remove obstacles in the way of joint trade and regional communication, but the continuation of this rail plan requires the provision of the necessary infrastructure, especially from the Pakistani side, which always emphasized by Iran.
