Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Counter-Terrorism and Extremism

Tehran – Pak Sahafat – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is formed in the heart of a region in which the extremes of extremism, terrorism and the desire to disrupt the political geography of the region, especially separatism, are strangely undeniable; but will Shanghai be able to overcome these dilemmas to create the right environment for global big business?

Reported by Pak Sahafat on Thursday – These problems, most of which are rooted in the unbalanced distribution of wealth, neglect of livelihoods and opportunities for development, and the influence of factors outside the region, are more tangible in some member countries and less so in others.

But the question that arises today in connection with the functioning of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is how, given the emphasis on the avoidance of militarism in the Statute of the Organization, member states in the form of this set will be able to deal with these phenomena that can thwart the economic plan and collective cooperation, to confront?

To answer this question, we first need to explain the interventions of extremism and terrorism, which after the fall of the Red Empire (former Soviet Union) in the early 1990s, in important parts of this area (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and it flourished, especially in the newly independent republics.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Counter-Terrorism and Extremism

The development of extremism in the Shanghai area dates back to before the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Simultaneously with the Afghan Mujahideen’s war with the Soviet Army in the 1980s, in some Pakistani tribal areas, the seeds of some terrorist groups, such as al-Qaeda, were sown with the financial support of some countries in the region and with the approval of the Americans, who entered Afghanistan to fight the Red Army.

Afghanistan’s adventurous history, including the coups of the 1980s and the subsequent occupation of the country by the Soviet Red Army and the war against the occupation until the Taliban entered Afghanistan in the first round in 1996 and since the 20-year occupation of the country by the Americans, It has been almost 50 years since 2001 when the Taliban came to power again, without the people of this country having a peaceful day.

Central Asia affected by Afghanistan

The study of the situation in Afghanistan takes place in a situation where the country is geographically and geopolitically part of the Shanghai Basin and some believe that it is even in the center.

In this context, the developments in Afghanistan, both positively and negatively, affect the countries of North Central Asia, which are in fact a kind of security belt in the south of Russia.

Countries such as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan are less directly affected by the effects of security shocks in Afghanistan.

Shanghai’s role in curbing security crises

Although the SCO Charter places a strong emphasis on being civilized and avoiding it, it should not be forgotten that the economy will not be seriously sustainable without security, and the SCO needs security throughout the area to build trade.

Perhaps the most important function of the SCO can be considered in this section. Member countries can enjoy the benefits of membership in the organization if security is established throughout their geographical area, and to achieve this, member countries are required to cooperate in the fight against terrorism and extremism. Achieving this important thing only goes through the channels of a will for collective cooperation, and not!
