From warning to disobedience in Netanyahu’s cabinet; how likely is the coup scenario?

Pak Sahafat – The Knesset’s vote on the law “repeal of the reasonableness argument” within the framework of the judicial reform bill has expanded the circle of protests in the occupied territories, and in addition to political activists, former officials and members of the Knesset, the voice of protest is heard from within the cabinet and among the military forces. An issue that has made the coup scenario looks more serious than ever.

Since Monday last week, the Zionist government’s cabinet seems more fragile than ever after 64 of the 120 members of the Knesset voted in favor of the “repeal of reasonableness proof” law in the framework of the judicial reform bill; The law, which was passed in its entirety in spite of the opposition, and since then the wave of protest intensified and accelerated to the point where the number of demonstrators reached hundreds of thousands.

By approving the law to cancel the proof of reasonableness, Netanyahu’s cabinet intended to act as a barrier against the view of the Supreme Court of the Zionist regime regarding its approvals and appointments, and finally passed that law through the parliament. The law is said to prevent the regime’s Supreme Court from overturning cabinet decisions or appointments it deems “unreasonable”.

Therefore, the approval of this bill is the first step in reducing the powers of the Zionist judicial system. According to the approval of this bill, the Zionist judicial system no longer has the right to cancel the decisions of the Zionist cabinet and its ministers under the pretext of unreasonableness. For this reason, the residents of the Zionist regime have always shown their protest against these developments by appearing in the streets of different cities during the last seven months.

From serious warnings to disobedience in the Likud war

After the approval of this law, it is as if the range of protests has expanded from citizens to the military and political levels, to the point where voices of protest and disobedience can be heard from within the cabinet.

Recently, Assaf Tsalil, the director general of the Ministry of Education of the Zionist regime, has resigned from his position in protest against the judicial changes bill. In this context, Avi Dikhter, the Minister of Agriculture and a member of the Likud Party, wrote on his Facebook page: “There are bullies who “The design of extreme laws endangers the government.”

Humiliation of Netanyahu’s cabinet again by the Biden administration

The views of these cabinet members are close to some opposition movements, such as “Yair Lapid”, the leader of the opposition, who emphasized in the parliament meeting that “Netanyahu has lost control over his coalition and his destructive government is leading Israel to destruction.”

The deception operation that Netanyahu launched on the eve of the judicial reform plan is now receiving serious attention from the opposition and various political currents. They believe that Netanyahu once deceived the ministers and Knesset representatives and promised that he would not allow the judicial reform law to proceed without a broad consensus, but today the opposite is happening.

Channel “Kan” and “13” of Israel, quoting members of the ruling Likud party, announced: Ministers and Knesset representatives, who object to the continued passage of judicial reforms without consensus, are determined not to allow Justice Minister Yariv Levin to push the Likud party into passing more parts of the judicial reforms without an agreement with the opposition.

The entry of the security forces into the issue and the feasibility of the coup

Simultaneously with the criticisms of political figures, military and security authorities have also opened their eyes to this issue. A few days ago, some Zionist sources reported that 700 reserve pilots, including 200 Israeli Air Force officers, have started a rebellion against Netanyahu’s judicial changes. At the same time, some soldiers have asked the minister of war, Yoav Gallant, to resign from his position.

After the approval of the law “Abrogation of Reasonableness Proof” and the escalation of the crisis, Israeli media reported that Netanyahu received at least four letters from intelligence and military agencies, which warned about serious security consequences due to changes in the country’s judicial structure.

Finally, it should be said that the difference between Netanyahu’s cabinet and the Israeli masses has taken on new dimensions over the past seven months. Therefore, in the past days, we have seen the spread of the crisis and its spread to other parts of society, such as political activists, former officials, members of the Knesset, and even within the cabinet.

More importantly, the involvement of the military in this issue and their serious warning to Netanyahu has made the coup scenario seem more likely. The scenario that can be seen in the statements of people like Benny Gantz, who is one of the leaders of the opposition coalition in the Knesset, has emphasized that if Netanyahu does not respect the decisions of the Supreme Court, he will lose the legitimacy of power and cause a coup in this regime.
