Al-Saud faces the fate of the former Afghan government

US support for the Saudi government is no different from support for the former Afghan government, which sold it to the Taliban for a small price, and the group took full control of Afghanistan within weeks.

Regional observers say the Saudis are worried about the future of their power after the US’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan and the end of Washington’s support for the former Afghan government. The Saudi regime relied on US support in the face of foreign enemies and internal threats.

Referring to the ongoing attacks by the Yemeni army and popular committees on Saudi Arabia’s vital and oil facilities, the observers noted that US security guarantees to Al Saud have been in doubt since Yemen’s painful response in September 2019.

Political experts say there are solutions that will help the Saudi government not to repeat the bitter and wrong experience of the former Afghan government; That Riyadh take a realistic stance on this and abandon the illusion that the West is a safe and profitable ally.

But observers of Saudi affairs believe that the United States will never leave the Saudi government like the former Taliban government and evacuate its military bases in the country because Riyadh has given all its oil wealth to the Americans and is the best guarantor of the security of the Israeli regime, therefore, Washington and Western countries are willing to engage with a military that is ready to recognize Israel in the near future.

In addition, the US withdrawal from Saudi Arabia will have adverse consequences for the Saudis, such as the loss of control and supervision of the two holy shrines in Mecca and Medina.
