United Nations: The non-renewal of the ceasefire in Yemen is disappointing

Pak Sahafat – Following the non-renewal of the ceasefire agreement in Yemen due to the violations of the Arab aggressor coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the violation of this agreement in the past, the spokesperson of the UN Secretary General expressed his disappointment and regret over this issue.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, quoting from the website of the Russian Elium network, Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman of the United Nations Secretary General, said in a press conference at the organization’s headquarters in New York: It is disappointing to see that the two sides did not agree on new proposals to extend the ceasefire.

He added: Despite the cease-fire not being extended, negotiations are still ongoing and Hans Grundberg, the UN special envoy to Yemen, continues to examine options that are acceptable to both sides.

Dujarric continued by ignoring the daily violations committed by the aggressor Saudi coalition as well as the failure of the United Nations to fulfill its obligations in the agreement: Civilians in Yemen directly benefited from the ceasefire, as military activities including airstrikes by Saudi-led coalition forces, and cross-border attacks by the Ansarullah movement ceased, and civilian casualties were significantly reduced.

He also asked both sides to maintain calm, refrain from any provocation or actions that may lead to escalation of violence, interact with each other and focus on completing the negotiations.

Dujarric also stated: Despite the UN’s disappointment with the current situation, we believe that this is not the end of the road and there is still time for the two sides to agree on the continuation of the ceasefire.

The ceasefire in Yemen ended on Sunday 10th of Mehr and has not been extended yet.

Earlier, “Mohammed Abdulsalam”, the head of the Yemeni negotiating team, said that the Yemeni negotiating team emphasizes the rights of the Yemeni nation and holds the aggressor countries responsible for the failure of the ceasefire.

He added: We emphasized our position on the necessity of paying the salaries of all employees and the pensions of retirees and lifting the cruel siege of Hodeidah port and Sana’a airport.

Abdus Salam added: The aggressor countries are responsible for the failure of the ceasefire and the increase in the sufferings of the dear Yemeni nation.

The ceasefire in Yemen, which has been repeatedly violated by the aggressor Saudi coalition, was extended once before following UN consultations. The 2-month extension of this ceasefire ended on August 11, which was extended again and ended on October 4.

Earlier, Mehdi Al-Mashat, the head of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen, said that the ceasefire in Yemen has almost been destroyed due to repeated violations by the Saudi coalition.

Saudi Arabia, in the form of a coalition of several Arab countries, including the UAE, and with the help and green light of the United States and the support of the Zionist regime, started large-scale attacks against Yemen – the poorest Arab country – from April 6, 2014.

After 7 years of invading Yemen and killing thousands of people and destroying the country’s infrastructure, these countries not only did not achieve their goals, but they were forced to accept a ceasefire after the Yemeni armed forces’ missile and drone strikes deep into their territory.

This ceasefire, which has lasted for 6 months, has been violated thousands of times by the aggressors and they have refused to implement some of its clauses.
