The first visit of the Secretary General of the Cooperation Council to Yemen in the last 8 years

Pak Sahafat – The Secretariat of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council announced the beginning of the official visit of “Jassem Mohammad Al-Badawi”, the Secretary General of this Council, to Yemen.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, citing Al-Khalij Online, in the short statement of the Cooperation Council Secretariat that was published on Thursday, no other details were mentioned about this trip, but this is the first trip of the Secretary General of this Council since the start of the war in Yemen in 2015.

According to Middle East, this trip coincides with continuous efforts to end the crisis in Yemen, especially after the reconciliation between Riyadh and Tehran and the visit of a Saudi delegation to Sana’a for the first time.

However, since the beginning of last May until today, the case of the Yemen crisis seems to have been without any significant progress during the past three months.

Last April, two delegations from Saudi Arabia and Oman started negotiations with the leaders of Ansarullah in Sana’a, which lasted for 6 days, and discussed ways to extend the ceasefire and establish peace in Yemen.

Last Saturday, Mehdi Al-Mashat, head of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen, in a meeting with a delegation from Oman, thanked and appreciated the country’s efforts to establish peace in Yemen.

Al-Mashat also expressed hope that these efforts will lead to results that will benefit the Yemeni nation and reduce the pain and suffering caused by the war.

The head of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen further noted: The patience of our nation is running out and this nation has the right to defend itself if the door of peace is closed by the enemy.

The visit of the Omani delegation to Sana’a took place 2 days after the visit of the United Nations Special Representative for Yemeni affairs to Muscat, Hans Grundberg.

Hans Grundberg, the United Nations Special Representative for Yemen affairs, met with Khalifa bin Ali al-Harthi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman for Political Affairs, on Tuesday during his trip to Oman.

According to this report, the two sides discussed the efforts made to help the Yemeni parties to reach a political solution to the crisis in this country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman announced that Al Harithi discussed with Grundberg the role of the United Nations at the political and humanitarian level in Yemen.
