Saudi Arabia: We have no connection with the Taliban government

The Saudi foreign minister said the country had no ties to the new Taliban government and stressed that Riyadh was still waiting for their recognition.

According to the regional office of Pak Sahafat News Agency, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud told an Indian media outlet about the developments in Afghanistan that the return and revival of al-Qaeda and ISIS in Afghanistan was a “real concern”.

Faisal bin Farhan told India Today: Transnational terrorism is a concern. The Taliban have now pledged not to use Afghan territory for terrorism.

Stressing that Saudi Arabia has nothing to do with the Taliban government, he added that Riyadh will “wait and watch (developments in Afghanistan)” before recognizing them.

Referring to his meeting with his Indian counterpart, the Saudi Foreign Minister said: We call for an inclusive government and the guarantee of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Regarding the Kashmir issue, Faisal called it a “bilateral issue between India and Pakistan” and stressed that “they should solve their problems through dialogue.”

The Saudi ambassador to Kabul, Faisal bin Talaq al-Baqami, accused the Taliban of collaborating with terrorist groups in August.

“We call on the Taliban to sever ties with terrorist groups and bring peace and dialogue,” he said during a meeting with Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the Afghan High Reconciliation Council.
