Pak Sahafat – The US State Department announced the arrest of an American citizen in Saudi Arabia.
According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, “Al-Khalij Online” news site quoted the spokesperson of the US State Department and wrote that Saudi Arabia has detained an American citizen named “Carly Morris”.
Ned Price, the spokesperson of the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in a press conference: The Washington Embassy in Riyadh is seriously following up on this issue and is closely monitoring the situation.
In a news conference broadcast by CNN, he added: We are aware of the reports of the arrest of Morris, and it is natural that the safety of American citizens abroad is our highest priority.
Earlier, the American news agency Associated Press announced on Tuesday that the American woman was detained because of the objections of her ex-Saudi husband – by taking his young daughter out of Saudi Arabia.

The news agency quoted the American group “Freedom Initiative” and wrote that Morris was summoned to a police station north of the city center on Monday and the Saudi authorities have not yet released her.
Meanwhile, American officials have said that Saudi authorities have confirmed the arrest of Morris.
They stated that the American citizen’s attempt to get his eight-year-old daughter out of Saudi Arabia has been made more difficult by Saudi Arabia’s strict guardianship laws.
According to AFP, Morris entered Saudi Arabia with his daughter in the summer of 2019 to introduce the girl to her father’s family, but he got stuck there and entered into a legal conflict in Saudi Arabia; Where the guardianship system allows fathers absolute guardianship over their children.
Carly Morris, who converted to Islam at the age of 17, met her Saudi ex-husband in America in 2013 through the Internet, and they separated in 2018 and returned to his country when their daughter was four years old.
