Revealing Riyadh’s actions in arbitrary detention and torture of hundreds of Yemenis

A human rights organization reported that the Saudi coalition arbitrarily detained and torture hundreds of Yemenis in the coalition’s prisons in Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

The Geneva-based human rights and freedoms organization SAM (SAM) reported on the Saudi regime’s arrest and detention of hundreds of Yemenis in illegal prisons inside Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

According to the Yemeni news site “September 26”, the report states that a field team from this organization arrested dozens of groups who were arbitrarily arrested and disappeared, and some of whom were tortured and killed, such as “Ibrahim al-Shamsani”, an officer.

The report also called on prominent human rights experts to include the case of Yemeni detainees in Saudi prisons in their annual reports.

According to the report, the exact number of people arbitrarily detained and missing persons in these prisons is not available due to the lack of registration of their names.

“Tawfiq al-Hamidi,” the head of the human rights organization, said: The new report has a clear legal dimension that reflects the suffering of the families of detainees who do not know the fate of their loved ones.

He called on the Saudi authorities to take a positive approach to this issue and to immediately take action to find out the case of these detainees and grant them legal rights and even pay fair compensation. At the same time, we cannot but blame the Yemeni officials for their shameful silence and lack of defense of their citizens.

According to al-Hamidi, other detainees include Yemeni fishermen who were detained by the Yemeni Coast Guard and handed over to Saudi forces for unknown reasons, and at least one of the fishermen died in prison as a result of torture.

Earlier, one of the released detainees said about his situation in Saudi prisons: “First you are taken to an unknown place with your hands and feet and eyes closed, then you are in solitary confinement for a month or less, somewhere about two meters by one meter. Then they take you in for questioning and torture you so much with an electric cable that you wish you were dead.”
