Meeting of Pakistani and Afghan Ulema on Afghan Peace Accord in Makkah

A meeting on the Afghan Peace Accord has started in Makkah under the auspices of the Islamic World Co-ordination with the participation of Pakistani and Afghan scholars.

During the meeting, OIC Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh said that Pakistan had hosted millions of Afghan families during the war in Afghanistan.

He said that intellectuals in Afghanistan must try to persuade groups that still do not believe in peace.

Bilal Akbar, Pakistan’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, said that in case of Afghan peace, lasting peace in the region would be strengthened and Pakistan would be most happy for peace in Afghanistan.

The Afghan ambassador said that the aim of the conference in Makkah was to end the four-decade-long war, a clear message to those who prefer war and destruction.
