Hamas’s emphasis on continuing its strategy of capturing Israeli soldiers

A spokesman for the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) told Fars News Agency that the strategy of capturing Zionist militants was the most effective way to deal with the issue of Palestinian prisoners.

In an interview with Fars News Agency’s Arabic website on the occasion of Palestinian Captivity Day, Hazem Qasim, spokesman for the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), stressed that the strategy of capturing the Zionist occupying forces is the most effective way to deal with the issue of Palestinian prisoners.

A Hamas spokesman commented on the importance of Captivity Day in supporting the issue of Palestinian prisoners: “It is natural for the occupied people to perpetuate this central issue by establishing a day for the Palestinian captives, because the captives themselves are one of the most obvious manifestations of self-sacrifice.”

Hazem Qasim added: “Every year, the day of the Palestinian captivity is kept alive, despite the fact that the issue is always mentioned in the daily life and political speeches of the resistance.”

A spokesman for the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement also said in connection with the capture of Israeli soldiers: ‌ “From the very beginning, Hamas considered the strategy of capturing the [Zionist] military to be the most effective way to deal with the issue of [Palestinian] prisoners. “[Hamas] made more efforts to implement this strategy until the operation of the Shalit prisoners and the execution of the big [prisoners] exchange deal took place.”

He continued: “The resistance is able to implement this strategy, which it has done and has proven to be a great success. [The resistance] is also able to take a strong step towards implementing this strategy.”

Hazem Qasim concluded by answering a question about expectations from Palestinian officials and leaders of resistance groups: “All the leaders of the Palestinian people must be called upon to continue their efforts to secure the release of the captives, as nothing beats this, even if it requires sacrifice.”
