The letter was signed by about 1,700 people who were directly affected by the attacks.

Last month, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, announced a bill to keep intelligence documents about the 9/11 attacks and “any role for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or individuals from Saudi Arabia or any country.”

Biden’s order comes as the 20th anniversary of al-Qaeda’s coordinated terrorist attacks on US civilian aircraft, including the World Trade Center towers in New York and the US Department of Defense, approaches. Nearly 3,000 people were killed and thousands injured.
