Putin: US withdrawal from Afghanistan is very important for Russia

Russian president said: “According to the situation in Afghanistan, the withdrawal of US troops from the country is very important for Moscow.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday night that the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan is of great importance to Moscow.

According to the Anatolia news agency, Putin said in a speech in Moscow that Afghanistan shares a border with Tajikistan, which hosts a Russian military base.

The Russian president said: “US troops are leaving Afghanistan. This [country] is very close to us, we have a military base in Tajikistan. “How to regulate our relations in the region and how to ensure the security of the region is a very important practical issue.”

Putin, who had a lengthy meeting with US President Joe Biden yesterday (Wednesday), said he had discussed the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

In another part of his speech, he described his American counterpart as a “professional” and said that Russia should “work with him very carefully so that nothing is overlooked.”

Putin added: ‌ “As long as the Americans are ready, we will be ready to continue these talks,” and his meeting with Biden on Wednesday was significant because “when people do not speak, there will be more and more common claims and concerns.” “It turned out that they have no external existence at all.”
