The warning of the American think tank regarding the prolongation of the war in Ukraine

Pak Sahafat – In a research, “RAND” think tank, while warning against the prolongation of the war in Ukraine, considered this situation to be in conflict with the interests of the United States and wrote: The current battle has diverted Washington’s focus from addressing other priorities.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency’s report, according to the results of a research conducted by the American think tank Rand, the costs of the continuation of the war in Ukraine are more than its benefits for the United States.

Based on the results of the study, which was published yesterday, Rand argues that although both the Russian and Ukrainian sides believe that they will benefit from the continuation of the war, this situation is not in the interest of the United States.

In the text of the research conducted by this American think tank, whose main focus is to provide political analysis to the US military forces, it is emphasized that although there is an alignment between the interests of Washington and Kiev in this war in most cases, these interests are not synonymous. In addition, this battle has already caused significant economic, military and credit damage to Russia, so its gradual weakening is no longer in America’s interest.

Rand also listed the costs of the war between the two neighbors and described it as very expensive for the West and wrote: In addition to causing major disruptions in the energy, food and fertilizer markets, this conflict will place a heavy burden on Europe and America due to their support provided extensive financial assistance from the Ukrainian government.

This think tank argues that with the prolongation of the war in Ukraine, there is a possibility of wavering in the aid sent by NATO and it is possible to reverse the current process based on which Kiev has been able to achieve success with the help of counterattacks against Russia. This think tank further notes that the current battle has caused the US top policymakers and military resources to become too concentrated, distracting them from addressing other global priorities such as China, while at the same time bringing Moscow closer to Beijing.

Rand also called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s vision of victory, in which Ukraine would retake all captured territory and prosecute Russia for war crimes and reparations, as optimistic and unlikely.

In the end, to resolve this conflict, Rand suggests that the United States can provide its future military aid conditional on Ukraine’s commitment to negotiations. Washington should also assure Moscow of Ukraine’s neutrality and set conditions for lifting sanctions.
