Pak Sahafat – France, which has seen successive rounds of strikes in various sectors in protest of the economic situation, is facing a big strike today with the participation of hundreds of thousands of employees.

According to the International group of Pak Sahafat news agency, French media have predicted that between 550,000 and 750,000 people will participate in nationwide strikes this Thursday to protest the controversial pension reforms of French President Emmanuel Macron’s government.

Expanding the scope of protests and strikes in France

According to “Sputnik” news agency, French labor unions have called for a solidarity response against the Macron government’s plans to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, end pension benefits in some industries and increase the number of years of employment required to receive full pension benefits. These reforms need to be approved by the French Parliament to be implemented.

Workers active in the energy industry and public transport and teachers are starting a one-day strike from today. According to the media, the strike will affect French rail and air traffic, and one in five flights will be canceled at Orly International Airport in Paris on Thursday.

A week ago, French trade unions announced that they would call for a strike in protest of the government’s pension reform plan.

Next month, the French Parliament is supposed to have a heated discussion about this plan, which has been opposed by the majority of opposition parties to the government.

In recent months, the workers of different sectors in France and England have carried out successive rounds of strikes in protest against the living conditions and the inflation crisis and the increase in the cost of living due to the ineffectiveness of the negotiations with the responsible authorities regarding their demands.
