British ambassador to Indonesia summoned for supporting homosexuality

Pak Sahafat – The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has officially summoned the British ambassador to explain the move to raise the gay flag.

According to Pak Sahafat News Agency, quoting Rasha Today, Indonesian officials summoned the British ambassador to Indonesia on Monday to explain the move to raise the gay flag in Jakarta.

The British embassy in Jakarta on May 17, in addition to raising the gay flag at the embassy in Indonesia, also supported them on its Instagram page.

In response, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the religious, social and cultural norms and beliefs of the Indonesian people and summoned the British ambassador and demanded that London respond.

Homosexuality is not explicitly criminalized in Indonesia, except in the provinces of Aceh and South Sumatra, but it has the largest Muslim population in the world, and the government opposes any publicity about it.

Indonesia is not the only country in Southeast Asia to protest foreign governments’ support for gay rights. Singapore warned the US embassy in Singapore last year to host a gay group webinar.
