“We and Soleimani” (2)/ Why was the assassination of General Soleimani a strategic mistake of America?

Pak Sahafat – Martyr Sardar Soleimani’s powerful game on the chess board of the countries of the region, the result of which was the destruction of ISIS, forced America to terrorize; The result of this action was the isolation of America, the vote of the Iraqi Parliament to expel the Americans, the gradual withdrawal from this geographical area and, on the other hand, the increase of regional influence as well as the power of Iran’s drones and missiles.

Three years ago, on these days, the American army, in a terrorist operation ordered by the former president of this country, Donald Trump, killed Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the IRGC Quds Force, and a number of his companions, including Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, the deputy of the Iraqi Popular Forces Organization, moments after Baghdad airport leavers were martyred.

In addition to Iran’s verbal and field reactions, this terrorist incident brought international condemnations; For example, “Agnes Callamard”, the special rapporteur of the United Nations in the field of illegal and arbitrary assassinations, called the crime of the United States in the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Soleimani illegal.

Soleimani’s outstanding personality traits, in addition to his ability to use effective battle tactics and tactics in the field, have made even American officials acknowledge his influence.

American general named “Mark Kimmitt” said in Al Jazeera’s roundtable: Soleimani was a commander who shone like a diamond; He was excellent in implementing war tactics; He acted with great ability in organizing the “Popular Mobilization”; We would be proud if he served in the US Army; Soleimani’s problem was that he was against us.

The protector of Iraq and the region from the nightmare of ISIS

At the peak of ISIS terrorist activities, few people predicted that the case of this terrorist group would be closed within a few years. In their comments, the Americans emphasized that the complete defeat and destruction of ISIS would take 30 years, and in fact, they were of the view that three decades of war and conflict and subsequent disputes in the region would continue.

How General Soleimani was able to play a role in the destruction of ISIS can be clearly seen during the confrontation with this group in northern Iraq, especially Erbil.

In June 2013, ISIS forces, advancing towards the northern regions of Iraq, quickly captured important areas in the north of the country, including “Mosul”, and on the other hand, ISIS forces started their advance from the western borders of Iraq in Anbar province and by capturing a large part of this province, they started their movement towards Baghdad to capture the capital of Iraq.

In continuation of its advances in northern Iraq, after capturing Mosul, ISIS besieged the city of Erbil and was going to occupy an important part of the Kurdistan region of Iraq by capturing this city.

While ISIS was taking the last steps to capture Erbil, an important event saved this city from its inevitable fall. Sardar Soleimani personally went to Erbil with 70 of his troops and succeeded in breaking the siege of Erbil in the operation he was in charge of.

A little later in October of the same year, General Hajizadeh, commander of the IRGC Air Force, said: If it were not for Iran, ISIS would have taken over Iraqi Kurdistan, General Soleimani stopped ISIS with 70 people and did not let them enter Erbil.

“Hussein Amirabdollahian”, the deputy of the Arabic-African Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the time, said in this regard: When ISIS was going to completely besiege Erbil, the Iranian consul general in Erbil called me and said that all the people and even the Barzani family had left Erbil. In that critical situation, Masoud Barzani, the leader of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, requested help from the American forces and the anti-ISIS coalition more than 5 times, but the Americans did not respond to his requests.

“Responsible Statecraft” analytical base affiliated with “Quincy Think Tank” in an analytical report written by “Steven Simon”, the senior analyst of this think tank and professor of international relations at “Colby College” in the United States, confirmed the arming of ISIS by the United States and its allies and writes: ISIS emerged in Syria due to chaotic conditions and was inadvertently armed by foreign actors, including the United States. ISIS had recruited 14,497 soldiers from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Tunisia and France along with smaller groups from dozens of other countries.

Iraqi official: Lieutenant General Soleimani’s martyrdom is a symbol of America’s crime

The senior analyst of the Quincy think tank, in the middle of September, at the height of the political crisis in Iraq, tried to answer the question, “How did the martyrdom of General Soleimani disable the levers of American influence in Iraq?” and wrote: The current crisis in Iraq is caused by the differences between al-Maliki and Moqtada al-Sadr. This process brings us back to the issue of the assassination of General Soleimani by the US in Iraq. This incident was not only a violation of Iraqi sovereignty, but Iraqis considered Soleimani and Al-Muhandis – and the popular mobilization committees – as their saviors from the oppression of ISIS. The assassination of General Soleimani, like other reckless actions of Trump, especially his withdrawal from the JCPOA, makes it difficult to advance American interests.

The West is in constant fear of revenge

After the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Soleimani, the supreme leader of the revolution threatened America with “severe revenge” and said: A harsh revenge is waiting for the criminals who stained their dirty hands with the blood of him and other martyrs of last night’s incident. The firing of 13 missiles by Iran at the American forces stationed at the Ain al-Assad base in Iraq was just one of the retaliatory attacks of our country.

In a note, Doug Bando, senior researcher at the Cato Institute, an American political think tank, criticized the performance of the Trump administration in dealing with Iran, especially against the testimony of Lieutenant General Soleimani, and assessed any retaliatory action by Tehran as rational and the result of the behavior of the White House.

In this note, he discussed the reasons for delaying the revenge of Sardar Soleimani and also explained the casualties and the significant cost of Ain al-Assad and wrote: The Trump administration violated unofficial procedure by assassinating General Soleimani, and targeting him was rash at best. In addition, Sardar Soleimani was not a low-level force but an important political and public figure for whom public mourning in Iran was real and internal.

According to the senior researcher of the Cato Institute, the assassination of Sardar Soleimani taught Washington an important lesson, namely that Iran is a fierce competitor with unexpected actions. American policymakers should be aware that no killing will be without cost, and that there will likely be retaliation against any future US intervention. Therefore, the Trump administration’s approach to Iran was a catastrophic failure, and the Biden administration must take a different path.

Since then, the officials of the Republican administration of Trump have always been in constant fear. Not long ago, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken confirmed in the meeting of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee: There was no attack on our forces for a considerable time, we don’t shed tears for (Sardar) Soleimani, but since we withdrew from the agreement, we killed him and labeled the IRGC as a terrorist, the attacks on us have increased by 400%.

A motivation that multiplied with terror

After the martyrdom of General Soleimani, what happened in Iran and in the Islamic world was unity for revenge against the enemies, especially America and Israel. In fact, if Iran wanted to create this unity, it would have to bear a lot of cost, but the strategic error of the former American president and his public act of terror in the region facilitated the process of convergence and unity. Just two days after the martyrdom of General Soleimani, the Iraqi parliament held a meeting on the expulsion of American troops from the country and voted to withdraw all foreign forces.

With the established unity, Iran continued to influence and play its effective role in the region with more power, and the stepwise and gradual withdrawal was the share of the United States; The reduction of American influence in Syria and Iraq and the irresponsible withdrawal from Afghanistan were only part of the failure of the White House’s strategy in Central Asia and the Middle East.

Of course, after the inauguration of “Joe Biden” and the continuation of Trump’s path, even the strategic partners of the United States, such as Saudi Arabia, separated from Washington and leaned towards Russia and China. In addition, several rounds of negotiations have been held between Tehran and Riyadh to resume relations.

About three months ago, the American website “1945” published an analysis entitled “Iran’s Big Dream; Using the Qadir missile to destroy the US Navy? Written by “Maya Carlin”. “Maya Carlin” is an analyst who focuses on Middle East security issues and is currently the secretary of the Middle East defense section of “1945” magazine.

From the content of this note, one can understand the fear of America and Zionism about the “Qadir” missile. In a part of this analytical note, it was stated: “Qader” missile has a wide range of capabilities; Capabilities that make it the best missile of the Iranian Navy.

From the point of view of the secretary of the Middle East Defense Department of 1945 publication, high precision navigation system, automatic flight control system and advanced radar system are among the features of this missile. Qadir uses a solid booster that provides the necessary acceleration for this weapon in the initial phase. After the completion of the first stage, the turbojet holder will complete the second stage rocket.

Conclusion

All in all, the assassination of General Soleimani by the American army, in the territory of a third country, sent at least two very important messages to the world:

  1. Independence and territorial integrity of other countries are not important for American officials.
  2. A double standard has been drawn for terrorism (good terrorism and bad terrorism), which is interpreted according to the interests of the United States and its Western allies; This is also true for human rights.
